December’s Art Lovers Book Club, in partnership with Leeds Libraries, will involve a guest appearance and talk from artist Chris Drury. Chris’ work Medicine Wheel (1982-83), is currently on display in our Natural Encounters exhibition Natural Encounters. Book your free place via Ticketsource. The event will be held via Zoom.

About the artist

Chris Drury is an environmental artist, making nature based sculpture, often referred to as Land Art or Art in Nature. Drury makes installations inside gallery spaces, often from natural materials, as well works on paper, works with maps, digital and video art, and works with mushrooms.

Drury has written: “My work makes connections between different phenomena in the world, specifically between Nature and Culture, Inner and Outer and Microcosm and Macrocosm. To this end I collaborate with scientists and technicians from a broad spectrum of disciplines and use whatever visual means, technologies and materials best suit the situation.”

About the book

Mushroom spore prints form the central panel of Chris Drury’s work ‘Medicine Wheel’ and so he has chosen to focus on a book about fungi called Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake. Entangled Life is a mind-altering journey into a spectacular and neglected world, and shows that fungi provide a key to understanding both the planet on which we live, and life itself.
