Leeds City Museum

Due to government guidance our museums and galleries will be temporarily closed from 5 Nov until at least 2 Dec. The grounds at Kirkstall Abbey, Temple Newsam and Lotherton remain accessible for use in line with government guidelines. Where possible, our cafés will remain open for takeaway only. Please stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Exploring the relationship between clothes shopping and people in Leeds, from 1720 to the present day.

Discover how clothes shops have changed, and how people have sought alternative ways to consume fashion.

The skeleton of our 152-year-old long-finned pilot whale is now on display at Leeds City Museum.

We have affectionately named him Swale (Yorkshire slang for ‘it’s a whale’) and you can now visit him outside the Life on Earth gallery. Come along to see him, discover his grizzly past and find out more about what we can do to protect our oceans.

This project has been funded with the help of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
