Sociable History Club is our monthly talks series for adults with guest speakers and a different theme each time.

Come along to our friendly talks for adults, every first Friday of the month. Drop in, no need to book. Please note, these talks are sometimes busy - entry is on a first come first served basis. Refreshments provided.

The talk is free. Leeds City Museum is a Give What You Can venue.

See below a list of speakers and topics for our upcoming sessions.

Friday 2 May

Riots and Protests in Leeds

Join members of Leeds City Museum's Front of House team to discuss their new project focused on riots and protests in Leeds throughout its history.

We’ll be discussing the research undertaken, how the project came to fruition and the varied outcomes we have put in place as well as telling the story of five fascinating riots and protests: the 1735 Corn Price riot, the 1812 Lady Ludd riot, the 1865 Dripping riot, the 1936 Battle of Holbeck Moor and the 1977 Reclaim the Night protest.

Friday 4 July

The Wonderful World of Miffy

Join Leeds City Museum's Curator of Exhibitions Laura Irwin, to explore the wonderful world of Miffy, the story of illustrator Dick Bruna and our current exhibition celebrating the 70th birthday of one of our favourite rabbits.

Friday 2 August

Leeds Stories by the Second World War Experience Centre

Anne Wickes will join us to share the stories of local Leeds soldiers, sharing wartime documents, letters and photographs to handle and explore.
