Sculptural Collage

Create your own collage keepsake, with Leeds Art Gallery’s Community Curator and the Youth Collective. Enjoy the meditative process of collage, slowing down and noticing the shapes, colours and textures within our Summer of Sculpture exhibitions. Make your own frottage papers, look through our variety of coloured and textured handmade papers; select, cut, tear, arrange and rearrange to create your own personal collage to take home.

Amelia Frances Wood: Mini Sculpture Making

Leeds-based artist Amelia Frances Wood leads this hands-on workshop. Inspired by Garth Evans’ Anti-Virus Sculptures, participants will use handbuilding techniques such as slab building to create their own miniature sculptures, experimenting with shape, form and texture. You’ll also have the opportunity to give your sculpture a name, just as Evans names his works in response to the mood or personality they appear to project.

Exhibition Talks: Dinner Party with Matthew Smith, Jacob Epstein, Olivia Bax

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? These talks by Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Nigel Walsh explore the idea of the art gallery as a convivial meeting place for artists, visitors, and artworks, from the pioneering wartime exhibitions at Temple Newsam House to the present day. How might both the art gallery and the dinner party be seen as microcosms of wider society – with all its perplexity, frustrations, and misunderstandings?

Film Screening: 'A Place in the World'

Film screening of ‘A Place in the World’, a new documentary film that explores the sixty-year career of the visionary artist Garth Evans whose work we are currently exhibiting in two exhibitions at Leeds Art Gallery. 

Performance Art: 'Dance Mat'

Experience Meg Erridge’s durational performance ‘Dance Mat’ accompanied by a new sound work made in collaboration with musician, Jack Williams. Expect elaborate costume and performance as sculpture.

Food and Drink

Cheese and charcuterie served up by our friends Cheesy Living Co., together with wine, beer, soft and hot drinks, cakes and snacks from the Tiled Hall Cafe.

Food not included in ticket price - card only. We kindly ask that you do not take drinks into the galleries - Tiled Hall Cafe and Henry Moore Lecture Theatre only.
