UNEARTHING(S)

22 May - 30 August 2026

Leeds Art Gallery

UNEARTHING(S) is a Yorkshire Contemporary commission for Leeds Art Gallery by Hannah Catherine Jones, the first exhibition in her home county and largest solo presentation to date.

Artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Jones is known for her layered soundscapes, performances and use of sculpture to conjure other-worldly installations. Jones’ work is centred on questions of decolonisation, seeking to disrupt the status quo, re-centre marginalised voices and create space for collective healing.

The site-specific installation will respond to Leeds Art Gallery’s Central Court, riffing off its chapel-like architecture. Combining sculpture, sound and light. UNEARTHING(S) will explore individual and collective themes of grief, loss and regeneration, considering the personal and cultural change we experience with the passage of time, all the while infused with Hannah’s subtle mixture of poignancy and humour. Drawing upon the artist’s own history and experience growing up as part of Yorkshire’s Caribbean diaspora, the exhibition will create space for audiences to come together to listen, think and reflect.
