Rocking horse in a room at Abbey House Museum

Christmas Toys and Games

What toys did children get in their stockings in the past? What did it mean if you got coal in your stocking? Discover how the Victorians invented many of the Christmas traditions we now take for granted and compare how rich and poor Victorians celebrated Christmas in the 19th century. This workshop is divided into an object handling session with objects from our collections and a craft activity session which takes place in our seasonally decorated Victorian streets.

Available in late November and December  |  Suitable for: KS1
