Mother and two daughters looking at industrial heritage

Creating a Heritage Framework for Leeds

What’s valuable about the culture and heritage of Leeds and what do we want to protect and pass on to the next generation? This means everything physical – things like objects, buildings, and landscapes – as well as intangible heritage – our stories, festivals, traditions, and beliefs.

Leeds City Council and a wide range of culture and heritage partners in the city are seeking to answer that question, producing a shared vision and action plan.

Why do this now?

Well, Leeds is changing.

You can see new buildings rising up every day on the city skyline, and every part of the Metropolitan District is being shaped and influenced by economic, environmental and social drivers for change.

It is important that heritage remains an integral part of the city’s future, bringing us all together around a shared culture, and attracting investment to Leeds.

Under the banner of ‘Our Leeds’, we are working with Wafer Hadley to form the framework and we’ll need your help. Details of how you can get involved will be posted here.

The culture and heritage partners currently involved: British Library, Harewood House, Henry Moore Foundation, Leeds Civic Trust, Thackray Museum of Medicine and Royal Armouries.
