Visit the Chippendale Triangle this June
To mark the birthday of Yorkshire-born furniture designer Thomas Chippendale this June, Temple Newsam, Nostell, and Harewood House Trust will come together to form a collaborative cultural partnership: the Chippendale Triangle.
Thomas Chippendale was one of the most famous and important English furniture makers in the 1700s. The work of Chippendale and his company included a beautiful lady's secretaire, made in 1773, which was saved in 1999 after a ban prevented it from being being sold to someone in New York.
Much of the furniture on display at Temple Newsam was originally commissioned for Harewood House as part of their 30-year commission with Chippendale. As well as furniture, Temple Newsam is also home to the Chippendale Society's archives which include original drawings and design drafts.
