Ink and Industry: Printing in Leeds

Step back in time at Leeds Industrial Museum, housed inside the Grade II listed Armley Mills. The museum contains exhibits from the 18th century through to the present day and tells the history of manufacturing in Leeds, including textiles, printing, film and engineering.

Get close to spinning wheels and working looms in the Textile Galleries. Take in the panoramic views from the original mill windows and come face-to-face with the huge Potts clock which once greeted holidaymakers to the Morecambe Promenade railway station in the early twentieth century. 

Discover Leeds' overlooked place in the story of print on this fascinating small-group experience celebrating the craft, technology and artistry of industrial printing.

Guests will explore the museum's printing collections and uncover the role Leeds played in the development of newspapers, publishing and commercial print production. The experience includes a hands-on demonstration using a beautifully restored 1850 Albion Press, offering visitors the rare opportunity to connect directly with the traditional skills and machinery of the printing trade.
