Step into the world of Sir Edward Wood, Earl of Halifax, and discover how his life and legacy shaped the story of Temple Newsam. This fascinating guided tour explores the rooms, objects, and personal histories connected to one of the estate’s most prominent residents.

Learn about his powerful career and his legacy at Temple Newsam.

Sir Edward Wood, Lord Halifax, was the last member of the Ingram family who inherited Temple Newsam from Emily Meynell-Ingram in 1904. He sold the estate to Leeds City Council in 1922. As a significant public figure on the national stage during the early 20th century, his experiences, decisions, and international roles left a complex imprint on British history. Here at Temple Newsam, his story becomes more personal—revealed through family spaces, treasured possessions, and the evolving life of the estate.

This tour offers a thoughtful and informative journey through the intersections of family life, national history, and the enduring significance of Temple Newsam House.
