Another Way of Seeing invites visitors to explore art using different senses, not just sight. Featuring artwork  inside wooden boxes – made to be touched, listened to, smelled, and discovered in surprising ways.

The artists and the curator of Another Way Of Seeing have been inspired by the art of Audrey Barker. Barker was a pioneering disabled artist who embraced issues around disability, accessibility and different forms of communication. She made several multi-sensory installations which usually featured items within frames, grids or boxes.

The artists creating artwork for the new exhibition are:

Emma Bentley-Fox
Emma Bolland
Jem Clancy
Michelle Duxbury
Saba Siddiqui
Sam Metz
Tony Heaton
Vickie Orton
Zoe Partington.

Another Way of Seeing will be at Leeds Art Gallery in Central Court from 2-14 December 2025 open from 11-3pm each day.

The exhibition runs at the same time as Beyond the Visual at the Henry Moore Institute next door, a major show celebrating blind and non-blind artists who challenge the dominance of sight in art. Visitors can easily explore both exhibitions.

This project is funded by Leeds City Council through the Leeds Cultural Investment Programme.

Exhibition Curated by Gill Crawshaw.
