Threads of Home
26 January - 2 June 2026
Threads of Home is a collaborative quilt created by refugee women participating in the STEP Forward programme at the Refugee Council.
Each square is inspired by ideas of home, identity and belonging, reflecting personal memories and the individual journeys of women building new lives in the UK.
As the quilt took shape, shared patterns and motifs began to emerge. These pieces are connected by threads that link stories together, revealing journeys between past and present homes.
Beyond the finished artwork, the project created a space for creativity, conversation and mutual support.
Through sewing, the women shared skills, formed new connections and developed a collective sense of pride and ownership.
Threads of Home celebrates the strength of community-led art and the many ways people define, create and carry “home” with them.
