Admission to Kirkstall Abbey is free to the following people, organisations, and participating members:

  • National Art Fund

Annual Pass

You will be provided with a Kirkstall Abbey Annual Pass on your first visit. This pass will allow repeat entry to the ruins for 12 months from the date of issue. This may exclude special ticketed events so please check our what’s on page when planning your visit.

Leeds resident annual pass

Leeds City Council taxpayers are considered a ‘Leeds resident’ and are able to visit Kirkstall Abbey for free, on presentation of valid proof of residency:

  • Drivers Licence
  • Recent utility bill


Leeds resident status applies to the following postcode areas:

  • All LS postcodes
  • BD3, 4, 10, 11
  • WF2, 3, 10, 12, 17
Annual Pass FAQs

I haven’t got proof of address, but I am a Leeds resident.

That’s ok – please remember to bring it next time. We will be able to issue you a Leeds Resident Annual Pass today. Please fill in your details on the back of the annual pass and validate it here. You will need to validate your pass before your next visit. Your details will be stored securely for the purposes of issuing passes.

I’ve not brought my pass but I already proved I’m a resident/I’ve already paid.

We can find your details on our system and check you in that way. Please provide your postcode and surname to our staff and we will check for you.

I’ve lost my pass – can I have a new one?

Yes – we’ll just need to check your details are up to date on our system and we can issue a new pass. Please provide your postcode and surname to our staff and we will check for you.

My details have changed, can I update them?

Yes – let us know what’s changed when you next visit and we’ll update it on the system and issue the relevant pass(es) for you.

Can I convert my pass? E.g. Leeds to non-Leeds or individual to family

    The nearest train stations are Kirkstall Forge and Headingley, both 1 mile away.
  • Bus


    Bus numbers 33, 34 and 757 from Leeds stop outside Kirkstall Abbey.
  • Car


    A large free car park is situated next to Abbey House Museum on Abbey Walk. This includes disabled parking. There is an additional disabled access parking space immediately outside the museum entrance.
