Leeds Discovery Centre Collection Store
From ancient Egypt to Medieval Kirkstall Abbey, our archaeology collection holds over 25,000 objects dating all the way back to the Stone Age.
Some of this collection can be seen at Leeds City Museum and Kirkstall Abbey, but the majority as stored in our collection store.
We continue to collect objects, mainly through excavations within the boundaries of Leeds Metropolitan District.
With over 750,000 specimens including taxidermy, skulls, eggs and microscope slides and skins, shells, plants and fungi, our Natural Science collection holds a variety of modern and extinct species from across the planet.
With a wide diversity of life represented in our collection, it has become a crucial resource for biodiversity conservation.
Our collections have Leeds at the centre, home to over 100,000 items from Leeds social history.
We continue to collect objects with strong local links to Leeds history and manufacture or association with Leeds people, communities and organisations, from the post-medieval period to the present day.
