This accessibility statement applies to museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk.

This website is run by Leeds Museums & Galleries. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• change colours, contrast levels and font
• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
• We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

• headings are not always in sequential order
• left/right scroll is introduced for smaller screen sizes and mobiles when text has been zoomed to 200%
• search option concealed for mobile users when text has been zoomed to 200%

• a small number of older PDF and Word documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The elements listed below are not accessible and do not comply with the accessibility regulations. 

1. Headings are not always in sequential order
   Some pages do not have the H1 page title as the first heading on the page and others skip heading sizes. This means the structure of the page content is not always clear for readers and fails 2.4.6 Headings and Labels. 
2. Left/right scroll is introduced for smaller screen sizes and mobiles when text has been zoomed to 200%
   When the text has been zoomed to 200%, for smaller screens and mobiles, the content does not all reflow and wrap as it should, meaning that left/right scroll is introduced and some text is cropped off. This fails 1.4.4 Resize Text and 1.4.10 Reflow.
3. Search option concealed for mobile users when text has been zoomed to 200%
   On mobile devices, when text has been zoomed to 200%, the header only has the logo and hamburger menu in it. The search functionality is no longer visible to use. This fails 2.4.5 Multiple Ways.
4. Google map frames do not have an accessible title 
   On the Tiled Hall Cafe page, the Google Map frame does not contain a title. This fails 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value. 
5. Issues with PDFs and other documents
   A small number of our older PDF documents don’t meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader. We are working to replace these documents with HTML/web format versions. Any new PDF or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We're working with our developers to fix issues 2, 3 and 4.

We are fixing issue 1 retrosepctively and aim to have this issue resolved in 2027.

We are fixing issue 5 as we upload new documents, and where appropiate are developing content in webpage form and offering a PDF or word document as an additional offer. This is particularly relevant for visual stories and access guides.

Leeds Museums & Galleries believes all content should be accessible for everyone. We do not currently intend to claim disproportionate burden for any website content.
