Temple Newsam reopening information

In response to coronavirus (COVID‑19), opening hours, booking systems and the visitor offer across our museums and galleries have changed. These changes are due to the measures we have put in place to ensure the safety of our visitors and staff.

Group restrictions

Groups will be limited to a maximum of six people regardless of whether you are visiting indoor or outdoor areas. To keep everyone safe at Temple Newsam we would like to advise you to only meet with people who live in your household or are part of your support bubble when visiting. Please do not gather in larger groups to protect everyone on the estate/site and ensure that we can operate safely within government and local guidelines.

What is open?

  • Grounds and gardens
  • Temple Newsam House: 11am-4pm, closed on Mondays
  • Home Farm: 10am-5pm, closed on Mondays
  • Playgrounds
  • Tea Rooms Café: Mon-Fri, 10am-4.30pm and Sat-Sun, 9.30am-5.30pm
  • Take-away service: Mon-Fri, 10am-4.30pm and Sat-Sun, 9.30am-5.30pm
  • Shop: Tues-Sun, 10am-4.30pm
  • Toilets: 9am-5pm
  • Car parks: most car parks are open at all times. The Lakeside and Walled Garden car parks close at 4.30pm.

The estate is open to visitors travelling by car and on foot. Please continue to follow guidance around social distancing during your visit.

Home Farm

Home Farm is open daily from 10am-5pm. Please follow our guidelines regarding social distancing and use our hand washing facilities as well as our sanitisation stations throughout. We have a new one way system in place so you can safely view all of what the farm has to offer with great views of the rare breed farmyard animals.

For visitor and staff safety, entry to Home Farm has limited ticketing each day. An online ticketing system is available for visitors to pre-book tickets in advance online to avoid disappointment. A small number of tickets may be available from the Stable Courtyard Gift Shop on the day, subject to availability.

MAX card holders are required to pre-book. Please note you can only book tickets online for the same day of visiting before 9am.

Temple Newsam House

The house is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11am-4pm. Please follow our guidelines on social distancing, use our sanitisation stations and follow our one way route. Some areas of the house remain temporarily closed.

Test and Trace

When entering our museums, galleries, cafes and shops it is essential to provide your details for Test and Trace purposes if you are over the age of 16.

Visitors to our sites must:

  • Check in using the QR code and NHS COVID-19 app OR provide details using a paper form provided by our team at the welcome point
  • Provide your full name and telephone number or email address for every member of the party over the age of 16

If you provide your details manually your data will be handled in accordance with GDPR regulations. It will be stored securely for 21 days and only shared with the NHS if requested by the Test and Trace service.

Café

Test and Trace

It is essential to scan the QR code using the NHS COVID-19 app or provide your name and contact details on entry.

Face coverings

When visiting the café please ensure that you wear your face covering at all times unless exempt and/or seated at a table.

General information

Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.

Playgrounds

We will be cleaning the equipment regularly and limiting numbers to ensure that the play areas are used safely, in line with government guidance.

Our playgrounds and equipment will not be supervised and we are requesting that all visitors are courteous and responsible. There will be notices around the playgrounds for everyone’s protection and we request that visitors:

  • regularly sanitise hands
  • maintain social distancing
  • do not eat or drink near or in the playgrounds

Toilets

We request that visitors:

  • do not enter if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) or a cough, fever and/or shortness of breath
  • wash or sanitise your hands on entry and exit
  • maintain social distancing
  • if it is busy, queue outside while maintaining social distancing

We encourage everyone to bring their own hand sanitiser when visiting Temple Newsam.

Mobility scooter hire

Mobility Scooters are now available but must be pre booked between Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 4pm. For bookings please call reception on 0113 336 7560.

Booking the golf course

Customers must book ahead by calling 01132 647362. Opening hours are 8am-6pm. The toilet facilities and shop remain closed until further notice.

Events

All events are postponed until further notice until we are able to run them safely in line with official guidance. In the meantime you can visit our new online exhibition Below the Salt.

How we are protecting staff

We are protecting our staff by ensuring that they maintain social distancing and are limiting the number of staff in an area at any one time.
