Skateboarding in Leeds mural

Artist: Melody Murals

Subject: Skateboarding in Leeds

With thanks to: Welcome Skate Store, LS-Ten skate park, Izzy Almond, Harry Meadley, Form Property

Skateboarders kindly gave their time at two consultation sessions, first at Welcome Skate Store and then at LS-Ten skatepark. Melody drew a design which references common themes from these sessions.

Along the deck of the board are popular skate spots across the City. Starting at Hyde Park at the top, the image travels down through the City past Henry Moor steps and Hibiscus Rising down to the location of the mural at Leeds Dock at the bottom. The mural also features stickers of groups and organisations connected to the contemporary skate scene.

This is one of five murals commissioned as part of the Leeds Museums and Galleries project On the pitch, off the pitch: Sporting Heritage in Leeds. #DYC on the pitch, off the pitch is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players.
