Entry to Leeds City Museum is free. There may be a queue for entry on the access ramp as we are limiting the number of people in the Museum.
Visitors do not need to pre-book.
We have put a recommended visitor route in place and the following areas are currently open with social distancing measures:
- Lower Ground Floor: Life on Earth Gallery
- Lower Ground Floor: Café
- First Floor: Shop
- Second Floor: The Leeds Story Gallery
- Third Floor: Fast x Slow Fashion exhibition
The below areas are currently closed to ensure that we can safely manage visitor numbers and flow through the Museum:

- First Floor: World View Gallery – Voices of Asia
- Third Floor: Ancient Worlds Gallery
The lift is in operation and we will permit one social group at a time.
Normal seating around the Museum is currently not in use but if you do require a seat please let a member of the team know and they will assist you.
It is now mandatory to wear a face covering in museums and shops if you are over the age of 11. We will remind visitors to put on their face covering before entering, unless an exemption applies. Please be courteous of others and mindful that not all reasons for exemption are visible.
We are in the process of adapting many of our interactives so please bear with us. Some of our interactives are out of action including our dressing up areas and the removal of toys in Toddler Town. This is to ensure that the Museum remains safe for everyone to enjoy. We will advise when these additional facilities will be back up and running.
We have introduced an i-spy game around the Museum for visitors to spot minibeasts in different areas as you explore. We also have a range of minibeast inspired activities available on our Facebook page for you to take part in at home.
The toilets and baby change on the Lower Ground Floor are open and we have put the necessary measures in place to help with social distancing and sanitisation. We will be conducting regular cleaning checks and the toilets will be closed during this time. Please queue outside of the facilities and maintain social distancing at all times.
Toilets on the First, Second and Third Floors are closed.
Our Changing Places facility on the Third Floor is available on request. Please note that this facility is only for use by visitors who are unable to use the Lower Ground Floor facilities.
The café is open Tuesday – Sunday 12 – 4.30pm and seating is available both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting. Last food orders will be taken at 3pm. The entrance is through the Museum via the main entrance, the café is situated on Lower Ground Floor. Outdoor seating can only accessed and exited through the main museum building.
