The 1152 Club: They Came, They Sewed, They Stayed
Date(s) - 22/03/2019
Venue Kirkstall Abbey
The 1152 Club — based in the spectacular surroundings of Kirkstall Abbey — meet every other Friday to listen to guest speakers on a variety of fascinating topics.
This week’s talk will focus on the experiences of the Irish women who left Ireland during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Explore their journey and memories of arriving in Leeds, with many finding work in the then vibrant tailoring industry or other similar low paid jobs in the public sector or health service, and how many of the friendships made remain to the present day.
This talk is free, and there is no need to book.
