Join artist, Sandy, for a day of fabric bird making.

Inspired by the wallpaper of Temple Newsam, in this 1 day workshop you will learn how to cut out, hand sew and fill out the shape of a fabric bird. You will also learn how to shape wire legs and feet and use fabric scraps to form the wings and tail feathers.

There will be plenty of fabrics and threads for you to work with and you are also welcome to bring your own.  This is an excellent opportunity to recycle odd bits of fabric or clothing you have lying around or make something using a piece of fabric that has a special meaning to you.

The workshop includes the opportunity to view the spectacular wallpaper that inspired this activity. Dating back to the 1820s, the decorative wallpaper in the Chinese Drawing is thought to be one most expensive in the world! Given to Lady Hertford by her friend, The Prince of Wales, she embellished it with cut out birds from Audubon’s Birds of America which now sells for over £8million a copy!

The workshop will run from 10 .30am until 3.30pm and there will be a 45 minute break for lunch. Please note that the event is suitable for adults only. The skill level is for beginners / intermediate and requires basic sewing skills.

Tea and coffee will be provided on the day. *A lunch bag can be pre-ordered containing a sandwich, flapjack and drink for £5.99

Tickets are £30 + booking fee. Please book ahead via Eventbrite.
