Would you like to have a go at dancing the historic dancers from the English Royal Courts of the 17th and 18th centuries in the beautiful picture gallery at Temple Newsam House? Experience a range of dances from the English Civil War through to the grand baroque dances following the restoration of the English monaquey. Try a Playford country dance or a minuet!
The Arbeau Dancers are holding a beginners taster session on Saturday 18th March from 11.00 to 1.00. No experience or partner is needed and it’s suitable for all abilities and ages from 16+. Full instructions will be given, starting from very basics to get everyone dancing. All you need are comfortable clothes you can move in and flat soft soled shoes. We will be in full period costume and will demonstrate some dances too.

The Arbeau Dancers are dancers in residence at Temple Newsom House and rehearse there most Saturday mornings. They have performed at numerous prestigious historic venues since 1974, with a repertoire that spans more than 500 years from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries. In recent years they have danced at, among other places, Apsley House, Belsay Hall, Middleham Castle, Rievaux Terraces, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Lincoln Castle, Temple Newsam, Sheffield Manor, Asten Hall and Rydale Folk Museum.
