“Born to blush unseen? ” Women artist-designers of the Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau period.
Professor Pudney will talk about the forgotten stories of three women artist-designers of the late 1800s – Christine Connell, Kate Harris and Florence Rimmington.
About the artists
Christine Connell
Christine Connell was a sculptor and silversmith in Clapton, London, and the daughter of a silk merchant. She was active as a silversmith and sculptor in London from the 1890’s onwards.
Kate Harris
Kate Harris was employed the London studio of William Hutton & Sons to produce artistic silver from 1899 to c 1905. Her work is often hallmarked for Goldsmiths and Silversmiths or Connells of Cheapside who were retailers as well as manufacturers.
Florence Rimmington
Florence Rimmington (1880-1916), was a professional silversmith and jeweller who taught metalwork and enamelling at the Camden School of Art.
