Launch of ‘The Eye of the Miner’ touring exhibition

The Eye of the Miner exhibition has been put together by miners and volunteers from Leeds Museums & Galleries. It will be displayed in the beautiful Walled Garden at Lotherton.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds will officially launch the exhibition at 11.30am. The exhibits include large black and white photographs of retired miners in their overalls taken in the disused buildings at Ledston Luck pit by photographer, John Arnison. Plus paintings by retired miners and examples of their mining memorabilia.

The miners will be presenting the exhibition, telling stories, singing songs and describing the context of the pictures to visitors. This will be the first of Lotherton’s Mining Community Day events which will happen annually.

The exhibition will continue to tour Yorkshire through 2021 showing in community venues around Leeds and Barnsley, The National Coal Mining Museum for England will finally travel North East to Newbiggin.

This event is free with general admission.
