Queens of Industry
13 March 2019 - 30 September 2019
Venue Leeds Industrial Museum
Celebrate the stories of women in industry in our exciting exhibition at Leeds Industrial Museum. It reveals the untold stories of working class ‘queens’ elected to represent some of Britain’s greatest industries, including coal to cotton.
These local women flew the flag for their industry, county or even country in what proved to be life-changing opportunities. The first Railway Queens were elected in the mid-1920s and the last Coal Queen was crowned in the early 1980s. Young workers’ lives were changed forever, with opportunities to star on screen, meet world leaders and become a female voice in male dominated industries.
Entry is included within the general admission price and there’s no need to book ahead. The exhibition is accompanies by regular talks and events.
