Discovery Summer Holidays
17 August 2022
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Venue Leeds Discovery Centre
This summer explore our collections at Leeds Discovery Centre with specialist curators, and take part in themed craft sessions.
From sport to science, world cultures to local history, there’s something different each week.
Perfect for families, each session includes a tour of our incredible objects store and a chance to see things that aren’t on display in our museums!
Discovery Summer Sessions:
3 August, 10am – 12pm
Join project curator Catherine Robins as she introduces you to some items in our collection related to sport.
Find out about what sports people in Leeds have played over time, and the equipment and outfits that they used to do it.
There will be a craft activity and store tour too.
10 August, 10am – 12pm
Made in Leeds – FULLY BOOKED
If it’s been made in Leeds then it’s likely we’ll have it in our collections! See objects from our social history collection to find out how Leeds has changed over time with our curator of social and Leeds history, Kitty Ross. There will be a craft activity and store tour too.
17 August, 10am – 12pm
Woven swimsuits and weaving wool
Explore some of our historic swimwear from the late Victoria woollen bathing suit, to more contemporary design of stretchy man-made fabrics. Learn about the different materials used for swimsuits over the years and practice your hand at trying to weave!
24 August, 10am – 12pm
African Summer – FULLY BOOKED
Think bright and bold as this week we are joined by curator of world cultures, Adam Jaffer, to explore some of our African textiles collection. Take part in a fun printing activity and explore the museum store with a guided tour.
31 August, 10am – 12pm
Serious Skeletons – FULLY BOOKED
