Discovery Summer Holidays
03 August 2022
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Venue Leeds Discovery Centre
This summer explore our collections at Leeds Discovery Centre with specialist curators, and take part in themed craft sessions.
From sport to science, world cultures to local history, there’s something different each week.
Perfect for families, each session includes a tour of our incredible objects store and a chance to see things that aren’t on display in our museums!
Discovery Summer Sessions:
3 August, 10am – 12pm
Join project curator Catherine Robins as she introduces you to some items in our collection related to sport. There will be a craft activity and store tour too.
10 August, 10am – 12pm
Made in Leeds
If it’s been made in Leeds then it’s likely we’ll have it in our collections! See objects from our social history collection to find out how Leeds has changed over time with our curator of social and Leeds history, Kitty Ross. There will be a craft activity and store tour too.
17 August, 10am – 12pm
Just in time for the summer holidays our assistant curator of dress & textiles, Vanessa Jones, will be taking you through some of our historic swimwear garments. Join her in a weaving session and enjoy a store tour to see more of the collections.
24 August, 10am – 12pm
African Textiles: Colour
Think bright and bold as this week we are joined by curator of world cultures, Adam Jaffer, to explore some of our African textiles collection. Take part in a fun printing activity and explore the museum store with a guided tour.
31 August, 10am – 12pm
Find out about skeletons of different animals and see them up close in this session with curator of natural science, Clare Brown. Take part in a craft activity and discover the museum store with Clare afterwards.
All sessions are free but must be booked as places are limited.
