Sociable History Club: The City Whale
Date/Time
08 November 2019
10:30 am - 11:30 am
Venue Leeds City Museum
Come along to our Sociable History Club to hear about the story of our long-finned pilot whale.
We’ve been collecting natural science specimens in Leeds for nearly 200 years. In 1868 the skeleton of a long-finned pilot whale was donated to the collections of Leeds Museum and Galleries. It is going back on display in Autumn 2019 at Leeds City Museum after a long absence, thanks to generous funding from the national lottery Heritage Fund, the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society and the Friends of Leeds City Museums. Find out how, where and why this poor whale dies and how it made its way to Leeds. Talk by Curator of natural Sciences Clare Brown.
The whale skeleton project has been funded with help from National Lottery Heritage Fund.
