Leeds Museums & Galleries 200th Birthday
03 September 2021 - 09 January 2022
Venue Leeds City Museum
Leeds Museums & Galleries is 200 years old and we are celebrating with a special exhibition at Leeds City Museum.
Since its origins the museum has been shaped by the city in which it exists. To mark our 200th year at Leeds Museums and Galleries we have explored the history of Leeds and how this is reflected in the city’s museum collections. We have also thought about what this means for the future, of both the city and of the museum.
These collections are yours. This exhibition has been co-produced with volunteers and partners from across the city and reflects what is important to them.
We have worked closely with others to explore themes and objects which represent the history of Leeds and our museum service. What you will see on display is only a surface-level view of our collective history and we hope it provides an insight into where we’ve come from and who we are today.
We want our visitors to help us shape what we do; please add your thoughts, ideas and experiences to the exhibition when you visit.
You will also be able to see a timeline of Leeds Museums & Galleries from its beginnings in 1821 in the Brodrick Hall.
A series of events, activities and talks will accompany the exhibition in autumn and winter. Please check our what’s on page to find out more.
