Discourse, Truth and Praxis – Mama Crone
12 October 2021 - 23 January 2022
Venue Leeds City Museum
Visit the community corridor at Leeds City Museum to see brand new works by artist Mama Crone.
Discourse, Truth and Praxis combines mixed media with words taken from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Fredrick Douglass (Collins Classic: London 2020 – original 1845).
The artworks attempt to convey the multiple themes found within Douglass’ book and his account of escape from slavery in 19th century America. By using the words of Douglass himself, this display highlights some of the consequences of historical slavery that still reverberate within our own time and place here in Leeds.
The work encourages you, the viewer, to look closely at Douglass’ own words, to experience the clarity and power of his narrative and be moved to praxis – that is the deliberate transformation of our behaviours.
