13 March 2023 - 04 June 2023
Venue Leeds City Museum
Creative Roots at Leeds City Museum celebrates the heritage, traditions and culture of the British Bangladeshi community in Beeston. Gathering stories of their parents, grandparents and wider family in Bangladesh and connecting them with their own stories in Leeds, the Kushy Dil (Happy Hearts) Women’s Group have created a series of vibrant artworks which celebrate identity, language and diversity.
Through this exhibition the authentic voices of British Bangladeshi women tell a story of hybrid identities and a fusion of cultures, giving visitors a glimpse into a Leeds community through the lens of its Bangladeshi heritage.
In a year which aims to highlight Leeds as a centre of art, culture and diversity we invite you to celebrate the creativity of the British Bangladeshi community of South Leeds.
