Text and the City: Feminist reading groups
Text and the City is a feminist reading and conversation group taking inspiration from the exhibition ‘Found Cities, Lost Objects’ at Leeds Art Gallery (open until 21 April).
There are three reading groups planned over the next fortnight that you can attend online or in person. We will be discussing articles, book chapters (shared as PDFs) and internet content, which explore experiences of the city from the perspectives of women and gender non-conforming poets, artists, filmmakers, architects and writers.
Through the themes of visibility, accessibility and reclamation, we will explore how people with intersecting privileges and limitations navigate the urban landscape. Our last session will also include the opportunity to do some embroidery during the session. Places can be booked by emailing textandthecityreadinggroup@gmail.com above or by scanning the QR code. The readings will be sent to you as soon as you sign up.
N.B. you do not need to attend all three sessions. The readings selected are all quite concise and attendees do not need to have read or watched all of the resources to attend.
Session 1 – Saturday 16 March 11.30-12.30
Session 2: Wednesday 20 March 12.30-1.30 Feel free to bring your pack-up lunch
Session 3: Saturday 23 March 11.30-12.30
The Text and the City reading groups are being organised by a group of Masters students at University of Leeds studying Art Gallery and Museum studies.
