FREE – drop in, suitable for all
This summer holiday at Leeds Art Gallery we are theming our Artspace activities around our current exhibition – Sonia Boyce ‘Feeling Her Way’.
Inspired by the sound, repeat pattern and improvisation within the sensory installation, playful pop-ups and residencies celebrate the thinking and making by artists from the global majority and invite everyone to enjoy and learn from being creative together.
Come along on weekdays throughout August to take part in arty activities for all the family. Specially selected materials and ideas will make a place for imagination, expression and being yourself.
Events and activities
National Play Day
Join us on National Play Day to discover what we can do with rolls of wallpaper and simple art materials to collaboratively transform a large room!
Artist in residence: Kedisha Coakley
8 – 12 August
Have fun with hair printing alongside Kedisha Coakley. She’ll introduce a different colour each day and encourage experiments with form and feeling. Everyone can get involved with 2D printing and become part of our planned group sculptures.
Artists in residence: Jioni Warner and Kalisha Cheddie-Piper
22 – 24 August
Discover your own way alongside Jioni Warner and Kalisha Cheddie-Piper, turning song by Black British singers into colour, shape and pattern, and adding a bit of yourself freestyling with collage and mark-making.
Look out for the Leeds Art Gallery Youth Collective who add their voice to the joy of creativity and celebrating our differences.
Next door at our sister gallery, the Henry Moore Institute, there will be word play activities with artists Abdullah Adekola and Ashleigh Beattie. Book on the HMI website.
