Exhibition: Slow Painting
Date/Time
25 October 2019 - 12 January 2020
Venue Leeds Art Gallery
Slow Painting at Leeds Art Gallery includes artists whose paintings, as the name suggests, take their time and invite us to take our own. Painting has historically been both created and received patiently, offering a space of pause, contemplation and gradual unfolding. Focusing on contemporary British painting, the artists included are at diverse points in their careers and approaches.
Curated by the writer and critic Martin Herbert, the exhibition features 19 artists, primarily British or UK based, whose work spans a myriad of styles and applications, from figuration to abstraction. The exhibition features the work of Darren Almond; Athanasios Argianas; Michael Armitage; Gareth Cadwallader; Varda Caivano; Lubaina Himid; Paul Housley; Merlin James; Allison Katz; Simon Ling; Lucy McKenzie; Mairead O’hEocha; Yelena Popova; Carol Rhodes; Sherman Mern Tat Sam; Benjamin Senior; Michael Simpson; Tim Stoner; Caragh Thuring.
This is a Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition which opens at Leeds Art Gallery and then travels to The Levinsky Gallery in Plymouth (25 Jan – 29 Mar 2020).
