We are delighted to announce the first event in our online talk series with Leeds Beckett University ‘Queer Ecologies: Reimagining nature through queer experience’. It’s free to join but please book via Eventbrite as spaces are limited.

The artists Sadé Mica, Rosanne Robertson and Victoria Sin, have been invited to speak as part of a public talks programme complementing the exhibition Natural Encounters at Leeds Art Gallery, which explores humankind’s relationship to the natural world. The panel will be chaired by artist Harold Offeh.

The artists will discuss how their work relates to the interdisciplinary set of practices termed ‘Queer ecologies’ These are practices that reimagine nature, biology, and sexuality, as well as evolutionary processes, ecological interactions, and environmental politics, in the light of queer theory. Queer ecologies disrupt heteronormative notions of nature, standing as a powerful corrective to views that equate ‘natural’ with ‘straight’ while ‘queer’ is held to be against nature.
