2023 Frontier Sapiens Film Programme

New Way Up
Run time: 24 minutes

The Karakoram mountains are known for their huge scale and jaw dropping beauty. Nestled within them is Gulmit Tower, a technical granite pinnacle that has never been summited. But Fabi Buhl and Will Sim, both experienced alpinists, have a new idea. They plan to harness the power of the sky and use paragliders to fly over the glaciated terrain, and in doing so, are attempting to set a new direction for Himalayan climbing.

Game Hawker
Run time: 18 minutes

5.png

Shawn Hayes, a city kid from a rough neighbourhood east of LA, finds a lifeline when he discovers the ancient art of falconry — and a rare new connection to the natural world. Early on, Shawn’s teachers discouraged his early interest in the outdoors, telling him “your people don’t do that kind of thing.” Game Hawker is a story of conservation, but also of finding one’s place in both nature and the world.

Wild Waters
Run time: 45 minutes

Adventurer, pioneer, and badass human are all words used to describe French kayaker, Nouria Newman. But the expectations placed upon her as both an athlete and as a woman weigh heavily on her decisions and ambitions, leading her to forge her own path. Wild Waters follows Nouria as she prepares to become the first female to run a 100ft waterfall; watching her grow from a young, keen Olympic hopeful to one of the greatest kayakers of all times.

Polers of the Okavango
Run time: 33 minutes

3.png

The Okavango Delta is one of the most pristine wildernesses remaining on our planet. At its beating heart are the BaYei polers, a group of people who for generations have carved out a living in the Delta itself. To highlight what it takes to operate in this wild environment, world renown adventurer Aldo Kane joins an elite poling team aiming to traverse the entire Delta; a 250km journey in traditional mokoro canoes through crocodile and hippo-laden waters.

Walking on Clouds
Run time: 6 minutes

The sport of slacklining requires dedication, determination and complete focus… let alone when it’s at 1900m above the ground. Join athlete Rafael Bridi as he attempts to break the record for the highest highline in the world above the city of Praia Grande in Brazil.
