Date/Time
21 June 2022
10:00 am - 11:15 am
Venue Kirkstall Abbey
The Kirkstall Abbey 1152 Club is a history and heritage talks series for people aged 55 and over, established in 2015.
In June 1933, the Leeds Academic Assistance Committee was set up to help German academics who had been dismissed from their posts in the Third Reich find new employment. This talk will give a history of the LAAC, the struggles it had to face, and the fates of the three German scientists who came to Leeds in 1933/34. The talk will also give some insight into the history of the Jewish community in Leeds and its relation to the non-Jewish majority in the early 20th century.
